Ellerman House is one of the most select and intimate boutique hotels in Cape Town that regularly hosts famous names, although they wouldn’t dream of divulging who, but we know who they are because we placed some of them here.

Ellerman House is known for its large pool, manicured shaded lawn terrace and tiered gardens occupying a commanding vantage point over comparatively wind-free Bantry Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. This opulent Cape Edwardian mansion once served as the summer residence of shipping owner Sir John and Lady Esther Ellerman. The hallmarks of service at Ellerman House pertain especially to hospitality and cuisine meriting Relais & Chateau distinction. It is also known for its fine art collection, including modern pieces with over 250 original artworks and sculptures by local artists. The Ellerman House  collection is considered to be of national significance.

The silver service Dining Room of muted shades, candelabras and ornate chandeliers has a perfectly situated balustrade balcony overlooking the sea, for uninterrupted views to Robben Island. The choice cuisine is contemporary-fusion in innovative menu selections.

Two Superior Suites enjoy understated sumptuousness being ideal for honeymooners, with an arrangement of sofas in reception lounges of Corinthian columns. In addition there are nine secluded individually appointed en-suite double bedrooms with underfloor heating. The bedrooms are adorned with valued art pieces from the collection, which are otherwise housed in the Ellerman Contemporary Gallery. This includes a notable work of Camps Bay in its early days by the Cape landscape painter Jan Volschenk.

The modernistic Ellerman Villa lies within the grounds and provides a contrast to the classical Ellerman House. It is an architecturally bold statement, with irregular shaped pool, incorporating an infinity element and expansive wooden decking with day-beds. An airy open-plan lounge is minimally furnished, with deep L-shaped leather sofa and retro futuristic armless easy chairs. The capacious bedroom is a study in aquamarine with oversized white ottoman at the foot of the bed and distinctive crowning headboard. A dedicated butler and private chef attend. The villa consists of three sea-facing master suites and two spa rooms.

Similarly, the state-of-the-art spa is of avant garde design with trained therapists dispensing treatments in three rooms. Additionally, there is a large sauna with infinity pool and a fully equipped gym secreted in the garden.
