The One&Only Cape Town Hotel is the newest addition to Cape Town’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, with its own water basin, serviced by a water taxi, as the One&Only Cape Town is a destination in itself. It was opened to great acclaim with a star-studded launch in April 2009. The hotel is marked by great voluminous spaces, as exemplified by the lofty entrance lobby. The atmosphere is one of urban sophistication set amid the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, with its cosmopolitan boutiques and restaurants.
The One&Only Cape has suites with stunning views of Table Mountain, Robben Island in the city, depending upon the aspect, but what all rooms have in common are uncluttered interiors of warm, muted tones. There are 131 expansively proportioned rooms and suites with luxury penthouses on offer. All rooms feature local artisan workmanship and contemporary artwork. Bright highlighting is set in relief to the widespread use of indigenous dark woods; a signature decor design feature. A further distinctive feature of bathroom design is oversized freestanding bathtubs, ‘rain’ showers and marble vanity units.
The One&Only Cape Town Hotel has a very special Spa, positioned on a private island across a walkway from the main hotel and encircled by a canal. Enticing holistic treatments are offered in twelve tranquil rooms, three shower water settings and two vitality pools. The swimming pool is for residents only, as are the fitness centre and 350 square meter heated infinity pool. Also, there is an art gallery collection of contemporary painting and sculpture, hair and beauty salons as well as a fashion boutique showcasing local and international designers. The full array of hotel facilities are comprehensive, all complemented by a full concierge service
Two in-house dining options in restaurants created by Michelin-rated chefs; Nobuyuki Matsuhisa and his Japanese restaurant Nobu and contemporary-fusion in Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant. Diners Club International recently awarded Maze with the accolade of Best Wine List in South Africa reflecting its choice from over 5,000 vintages, while master chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa has ably married his classical Japanese cuisine with local ingredients. As at other Nobu branches, the signature ‘Saketini’ cocktail is served, in addition to a selection of wines and choice Japanese beers. Both have gained reputations in Cape Town as being notable dining venues.
Children are well provided for in One&Only Cape Town, with its own imaginative ‘Kids Only Club’. This provides a wealth of activities including arts and crafts, folklore storytelling and song. Excursions are organised for teenagers such as rock-climbing, sand-boarding and indoor karting.
Kerzner International has an established international reputation for excellence in resorts from The Bahamas and Dubai to the Maldives, Morocco and Mauritius. One&Only Cape Town lives up to this reputation.
