GENERAL INFORMATION CAPE TOWN

The descent into Cape Town Airport stirs up emotions as Table Mountain comes in to view and the unique geography of Cape Point becomes apparent, where two great bodies of water meet. Those returning have been known to be moved to tears, such is the fondness Capetonians have for their corner of Africa.

Cape Town boasts dramatic scenery where mountains meet the sea and bays form natural harbours. Table Mountain creates the backdrop to what has been called the “perfect Feng Shui city.”  Protected from the rear and the sides by quartzite mountains full of crystal energy, the city is in a bowl cleansed by water to the front. It is perfectly formed and small enough to walk around and familiarise yourself with all its charms.

Table Mountain takes centre stage and is a beacon and landmark for many miles around. It rewards visitors not only with extraordinary views from the top of the world, but hiking trails and numerous ways to throw yourself off its peaks, including paragliding and abseiling.  At the top you are about 1km high and views from the upper cable station are momentous for a full 360 degrees.

Cape Town’s modern heart is still true to its sea-faring roots, centred around the working shipyard and recreational playground of the V&A Waterfront. Elegant facades of Victoriana wrought ironwork provide the backdrop to yachts, ferries and cruise liners. An array of restaurants vie with fashionable bars for the most spectacular views across the busy quayside to Table Mountain. Excursions from the V&A Waterfront take in the classic picture-postcard views Cape Town from Table Bay.  Robben Island lies just offshore and signifies just how far South Africa has come in the past few years towards becoming a unified nation, or as Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu says, a “rainbow nation.”

Within Cape Town’s city bowl is the colourful Bo-Kaap Cape Malay Quarter of mosques and vivid pastel washed houses, reflecting the cosmopolitan settlement of diverse communities of Cape Town. The nearby Gold Museum and Slave Lodge speak to other historical realities. On the perimeter of The Company’s Gardens is St. George’s Cathedral, the ‘peoples’ cathedral’ where Nobel Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu once preached his words of wisdom.

The glamorous side of Cape Town can be found beside pristine fine white sand beaches of Camps Bay. This wide beach lined with pavement cafes lure the beautiful people and sun-worshippers, but few actually swim – the Atlantic Ocean is usually so cold it is hard to even put your toe in. Sundowners are sipped from hip cocktail lounges full of those wanting to see and be seen. Evenings in Camps Bay are magical with bold orange sunsets transforming the sea to molten gold and moonlight shimmering through the palm trees. The four enclaves of next door Clifton beaches are separated by natural rock formations and each one is reached by a steep winding staircase, descending from smart apartment complexes that jostle for space on these expensive coastal slopes.

This is just a taster of what to expect in Cape Town and we guarantee to place you amongst it all in surroundings that will take your breath away. Cape Town is our town – our offices are here in Camps Bay  - and we know every accommodation establishment personally. Come and see what we can do for you in Cape Town.
