Singita is one of the best known names in African safari, with elite luxury game reserves in South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. In each of the Singita game reserves they offer a number of different safari lodges, all with the distinctive service excellence and interesting architecture and decor that make Singita Lodges synonymous with style.
Singita’s original and best known lodges are Singita Boulders Lodge and Singita Ebony Lodge in the Singita Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve on the western border of Kruger National Park. This area is renowned for all the big game, especially cats like lion and leopards who are not as shy as elsewhere, making the chances of seeing them very high.
Singita Ebony was Singita’s founding lodge and is imbued with a rich blend of colours and textures from tartans to animals skins and mounted game trophies. Trees fringe the lodge through which dramatic sunsets are framed. The secluded thatched suites are unobtrusively plush and the atmosphere is one of familiarity and understated luxury. Each suite has its own pool and view of the bushveld, grazed by all the herbivores and inhabited by all the predators. Your own butler attends all your meals and helps you choose from a menu of first-rate cuisine prepared by chefs three times daily and served on various decks according to the time of day. This could mean by the river or under the stars.
Singita Boulders Lodge is close by also along the Sand River and takes its cue from the surrounding environment in an open-plan organic design that draws the outside in. Modern wooden furniture features on viewing platforms and beside the pool, contrasts with the hewn stone of the thatched lounge areas. Wildlife and the beguiling landscape are observed from the lookout deck. Private suites present a harmonious interior centred around a fireplace within airy living spaces and glass walls to further enhance the outside/inside concept . Children are welcome and catered for with sports and recreational activities.
The other South African Singita game lodges rest in the heart of Kruger National Park itself. Singita have a private concession close to the Mozambique border renowned for its biodiversity and very large lion prides. In the local Shangaan language “Singita’’ means “place of miracles” and Singita Lebombo and Singita Sweni lodges on a high ridge beside a river, might just provide you with the miracle of seeing the ‘Mountain Pride’ comprising of a pride more than twenty strong.
Singita Lebombo was inspired by soaring eagles and resemble wooden nests (called lofts) clinging to the cliff-face. The fifteen suites are built on a frame clad with glass to make best use of the spectacular views over the river. Every aspect of Singita Lebombo is striking and the interior décor can replicated in your own home by purchasing your favourite things in the Singita shop, right beside the gym and spa. One of many special features of each loft is the day mattress on every balcony, which can be set up for a romantic open-air sleep under the stars.
Singita Sweni Lodge is intended to be a natural extension of the enveloping riverine reed and grass forest flanking the Sweni River. Listen out for the hippos grunting just down river from the lodge. The decor of the six open-plan suites of Singita Sweni Lodge are themed in earthy, restful chocolate and pistachio green shades. Shady solitude and seclusion recommend Sweni to those seeking privacy, while clean lines of glass walls and wide decks keep it light and airy.
It is the combination of open Land Rover tours led by experienced rangers and trackers with an intimate knowledge of the territories, with the innovative décor and “touch the earth lightly” ethos in the Singita resorts that define Singita Private Game Reserves’ unique brand of hospitality.
“ Touch the earth lightly” is Singita’s motto and is only one of several reasons why Singita safari lodges are consistently voted ‘best in the world’ by Condé Nast readers.
