Product Information > Safari> Zambezi Queen, Chobe National Park, Namibia & Botswana> 14 Bedrooms > Grade: Platinum
The Zambezi Queen facilitates luxury river safaris on the Chobe River through Namibia and Botswana not far from the famed landmark Victoria Falls in Zambia. The vessel is a 42 metre houseboat propelled by jet propulsion system of de luxe cabin suites accommodating 32 passengers protected throughout by mosquito netting. One can dine on the third level upper deck restaurant and witness animals such as fish eagles swoop, hippos throng and all manner of creatures gather at the riverbanks at dusk, take a sortie from a private boat or hone your fishing skills. The animals seem to descend on you here as such sights as congregating elephants silhouetted against a spectacular sunset stir the soul or wading crocodiles chill the senses evoking romantic notions redolent of Agatha Christie and the African Queen.

Although the design of the Zambezi Queen allows it to navigate the shallows, two private tender boats (of a complement of seven) conduct game viewing excursions allowing one to get close to the fauna on rain-protected craft (with refrigeration and WC). Otherwise, there are 4 by 4 vehicle land-based game viewing tours in the Chobe National Park, seasonal tiger fishing, bird-watching and cultural tours of local villages.Facilities include a contemporary bar lounge decorated in zebra motifs and a substantial viewing deck and pool area to sunbathe on and contemplate the changing landscape vistas.

There is also a recreational reading room and souvenir boutique. Accommodation comprises eight suites and six master suites on the lower and middle decks each with shower and private balcony, cooled by means of fans and louvred panel shutters.

Game viewing is most rewarding in the winter months while during summer over 250 bird species can be spotted; the Zambezi Queen tours all year. One is collected in Botswana (or by special arrangement from other land-base locations).

There can be few natural wonders as synonymous with Africa's raw wilderness as the great Chobe River. These waters divide Namibia's Caprivi Strip from Botswana's Chobe National Park, and its exotic banks boast one of the densest populations of wildlife on the African continent. Teeming with life, this National Park sprawls across some 11 000 m of lush African bush, and is home to the largest populace of elephants in the world – currently estimated at roughly 120 000. Along with the elephants, leopards and lions, huge groups of buffalo, waterbuck, roan, eland, sable, giraffe, and, if you are lucky, one of the rare puku, can also be seen. In the river itself watch out for hippo and crocodile, and keep your binoculars at the ready for spotting a rich selection of bird life.

The first and second levels of the boat incorporate 14 cabins - all of which have their own private balconies and have been tastefully furnished with either a double or two single beds. Of the 14 suites, 4 are master suites, some with their own private outdoor areas. These master suites are all larger than the 10 standard suites. Because of the limitations regarding power, none of the suites have been fitted with air conditioning units. However, each private space has been designed with the African summer in mind, and clever use of shutters situated on the outer edge of the deck and fans ensures a cool experience even during times of the year when external temperatures soar. Uniquely, the entire boat including the top deck, living and dining area, has mosquito screening.
